The 3.5-hour drive that changed everything

PokerStrategy, the poker training site I'd been coaching for, was moving to Gibraltar. Their Dutch community manager didn't want to go.
I applied.
They asked me to come in. So I drove 3.5 hours to interview with Lutz. It was further than I'd ever driven before.

My girlfriend wanted to live somewhere warmer. I wanted to escape a village no one ever left.
I got the job.
I was one of the first 10 to relocate to Gibraltar. Employee no. 7, it said on my payslip. Living in a small community full of expats. Sharing houses, like poker pads.
Together, we were building a life in a country none of us were from.
PokerStrategy grew into the biggest poker affiliate in the world: 6.5 million members. 19 languages. 400 employees. Thousands of freelancers. $24 million EBIT.
I couldn't have imagined that life when I pointed my car at Hamburg. Because the only plan was to escape the village.
